AVIF Update: Animations and New AVIF Default
- Animated AVIFs are now supported (previously, animated images converted to AVIF would render as static files). Note: some versions of Firefox still do not support animated AVIFs and any animated AVIF returned to Firefox will render as a static image.
- The rollout making AVIF the default format for
auto=formatis currently underway and all users will gradually start seeing requests return AVIFs for compatible browsers. You can read more about our AVIF solution here or contact us if you want to opt out.
XMP Metadata
- XMP metadata can now be preserved for JPG to JPG transformations. If you would like to learn more about this feature, please reach out to us.

- The imgix App on Contentful now supports search! Quickly find the right image and optimize it with imgix.
Rendering Bug Fixes
- Fixed some cases where transparent backgrounds were not being properly preserved with
auto=compress. - Fixed some cases where
fill=blurwas not working in PNG to JPG transformations. - Fixed some cases where
trimwas not working as expected with transparent borders.
